We have been working on the Baybayin Flash Cards since April 2024. As the Balay Kreative Growth Artist of 2024, it was a surreal moment presenting the cards, having an exhibit and workshop at this year’s Undiscovered SF. We are so blessed to be able to celebrate Fil-Am History Month and the Baybayin Exhibit with the Bay Area community and Philippine diaspora. Overall, it was a pleasure educating and bringing the community Baybayin and a piece of pre-colonial Philippine history.
I would like to thank the team and our volunteers for making this event a fun time. I could not have done it without The Gartden LLC team. Maraming salamat sa lahat.

Our Baybayin workshop during the UNDISCOVERED SF Culture Crawl was a truly special event that I was SO proud to be a part of. I was unable to be as present for the planning and preparation as my teammates due to my day job, but Francis and Andrea were absolute rockstars with taking care of things when I couldn’t physically be there to help. Shoutout to the both of them for holding things down!
The event day was a great learning experience, for our workshop attendees and for myself as well. I was assigned the responsibility of helping Francis run the workshop, which involved teaching people how to write using Baybayin. This was my first time teaching anyone anything so it was really interesting learning how to teach others about something that I’m still learning about myself. It was challenging at first, but as I got used to it, I was having such a good time helping our participants with writing and answering any questions that they had.
This workshop was a very enjoyable and valuable experience for me, and I hope to be part of more of these in the future. I want to extend an enormous thank you to our team, the UNDISCOVERED SF organizers and volunteers, and our workshop attendees for all of the support in ensuring the success of this event! May there be many more to come.

A lot of preparation went into our Baybayin workshops and exhibits.
One of my favorite things about this exhibit was the “interactive wall”. When I first walked into the CAST building to see the space to see how we can set it up, I immediately thought “wow, we can make some blown up versions of the cards that people can move around and try to ‘write’ in Baybayin on their own.” We ordered 4x6 pictures of the deck and decided to paste them on to cardboard to make them easier to stay in place.
It was great to see one of many ideas come to life, but it was even better seeing people interact with it as well. Big thank you to everyone who came to the exhibit and had fun with our interactive wall!
All in all, it was a great experience and excited for more opportunities to come!
Thank you to our Team that helped make the exhibit run smoothly, we could not have done it without you!
